When a usable local model configuration exists, KeenKind uses it directly and hides account and sign-in entries that are no longer needed. Model keys are stored locally and are not displayed in chat messages.

Update restart policy

Jump to Update restart policy

In General, choose what happens after an update is ready:

  • Interrupt tasks and update now: install and restart immediately, ending current tasks.
  • Restart automatically after tasks finish (default): wait until all tasks fully settle, then update and restart.
  • Manual restart: download and verify in the background, then let you trigger installation and restart.

In App, choose how KeenKind searches the web:

  • Disabled: web search is unavailable.
  • Cached: prefer local cached results; on a miss, query the current search service and cache for 24 hours.
  • Indexed: refresh indexed results through the current service, retaining local cache as a failure fallback.
  • Live: bypass local cache and fetch the service’s latest results.

Local tool components

Jump to Local tool components

In Integrations > Local tool components, enable tools already installed on your device:

  • Tesseract 5 OCR: recognize image pages in PDFs on demand. Specify executable path, language data directory, and up to 8 comma-separated recognition languages.
  • gopls code navigation: use installed gopls for semantic Go navigation. Queries report the reduced scope if the component is unavailable.

These settings do not download components. Saved changes apply to new queries; running queries retain their original configuration.

Import chat history

Jump to Import chat history

In Data > Import, scan and import local Codex or Claude Code chats and projects:

  1. Click Rescan to detect local data.
  2. Review the available chat and project counts.
  3. Confirm the import.

Import only links project folders that still exist. It does not copy, move, or modify source files. Very long messages may be truncated.

Local configuration file

Jump to Local configuration file

User configuration is stored in:

~/.keenkind/<environment>/config.toml

<environment> is production or development. The two environments store data separately.

The file holds models, interface preferences, and other portable settings. Sensitive data such as API keys is protected separately by the app; avoid entering it manually in this file.

Prefer the settings interface. Edit the file directly only for migration, backup, or troubleshooting, after fully exiting KeenKind.

~/.keenkind/<environment> may also contain installed or generated content:

Directory Content
skills Local Skills
plugins Local plugins
images Images saved to KeenKind

You can uninstall an extension from KeenKind while retaining its local files for development or later reinstallation.

Backup and migration

Jump to Backup and migration
  1. Fully exit KeenKind from the system tray.
  2. Back up ~/.keenkind/, including the relevant environment directories.
  3. Install KeenKind on the new device, then start and exit it once.
  4. Restore the configuration, Skills, plugins, and images you need.
  5. Reopen KeenKind and check models and extensions.

Keep directories containing keys or login state out of repositories, and do not send API keys in chat.
