Skills

A Skill is a reusable set of task instructions. It tells KeenKind when to apply a method, which rules to follow, and what a result should satisfy.

Skills suit team standards, recurring workflows, domain knowledge, and output templates. They do not replace models or automatically gain permissions.

  1. Open Settings > Extensions > Skills.
  2. Browse categories or search by name.
  3. Open details and check the source and description.
  4. Click Install.

Skills are enabled after installation. Temporarily disable with the toggle or uninstall from the more menu.

Local Skills live in ~/.keenkind/<environment>/skills and are managed in Local Skills. Use them for internal rules and Skills under development.

KeenKind also reads project Skills from .keenkind/skills and .agents/skills. Entries with the same name are kept separately rather than merged.

You can keep local files when uninstalling a Skill to protect work in progress.

Use a Skill in chat

Jump to Use a Skill in chat

Type $, find and select a Skill, then describe the task. KeenKind can also use an enabled Skill when a task clearly matches it.

Example:

$Keenkind Plugin Development Create a read-only file statistics plugin in this directory.

Still specify the goal, inputs, and completion criteria. The Skill provides a method rather than replacing the request.

Safety and permissions

Jump to Safety and permissions
  • Skill instructions cannot increase file, command, or network permissions.
  • Check the source before installation; unfamiliar Skills may contain unsuitable instructions.
  • If a required tool is unavailable, KeenKind reports the limitation or uses an available approach.

To create your own, see Developing Skills.
