Subagents and side chats

Subagents and side chats are separate conversations with different purposes.

Capability Subagent Side chat
Created by KeenKind in the main chat User
Purpose Parallel investigation and delegated work Temporary research, analysis, and discussion
File changes Within the main chat’s permissions No
Full conversation Open the subagent status Shown directly in the right panel
After closing Results stay in the main chat Temporary content is cleared

For complex tasks, KeenKind can create subagents to investigate code, documentation, or tests. The main chat waits for relevant agents, integrates results, and continues.

Subagents have independent context and inherit the main chat’s permitted model and capability scope. A role description cannot grant additional permissions.

Click the subagent badge to view status and intermediate results. Starting a subagent does not automatically open the right panel.

Orchestration and role profiles

Jump to Orchestration and role profiles

Open Orchestration in the left navigation to manage roles:

  • Set a name, task type, model, reasoning level, and role prompt.
  • Enable or disable a role.
  • In advanced mode, control tool categories (read, write, execute, network, process, terminal, state) and individual tools.
  • Choose an approval policy: disable tools, inherit parent permissions, always request approval, or allow automatic execution.
  • Allow or disallow interactive tools.

Up to 10 roles can be configured. Each subagent receives an immutable role snapshot at creation. Later role edits do not change existing runs.

The Agent Office shows roles as workstations: idle, queued, busy, waiting for input, or completed. Click a workstation to open or edit its role.

Symptom Action
Subagent does not use tools Check its approval policy and allowed risk categories.
Subagent stays queued All concurrency slots are occupied; it starts after another run finishes.
Waiting for input Provide the required information in the chat.
Role edits have no effect Existing runs use their creation snapshot; create a new run.

Use a side chat for questions without interrupting the main task, such as:

  • Explaining code.
  • Comparing approaches.
  • Reading an uploaded document or image.
  • Investigating read-only project information.

Use the plus button to create multiple side chats. They cannot modify projects or create subagents. Closing one removes its temporary history.

  • For parallel work in the main task, use subagents.
  • For a temporary question, use a side chat.
  • To modify files, return to the main chat.
